Furry Critter Visitors: domestic and not
A friendly reminder that our family dogs and cats must be licensed with the city by June 30. There is a $10 fee for spayed/neutered pets – and a $20 fee for non-spayed/neutered pets. Of course, the health and safety of all our furry loved ones are most important so be sure to vaccinate your pets regularly. OP requires Special Animal Permits for homes with more than 2 dogs or 2 cats. City regulations require dogs must be on a leash no longer than 10 feet long at all times, when not confined to the backyard or residence. Tethering dogs outside between the hours of 7 PM and 7 AM is also prohibited. Please consider your neighbors by keeping dogs that may bark excessively inside – they are probably just trying to tell us they want inside!
You may see and hear more songbirds in your yard – this is their nesting season! They depend on insects (10,000+ insects) to raise their young. Pesticides are harmful to these visitors, please be conscious of this – songbirds love to help control those pesky insects.
Non-Domestic neighborhood visitors such as raccoons, opossums, rabbits, field mice, chipmunks, and all of the squirrels our neighborhood sees will be around this time of the year as well. Keep an eye on the exterior of your home for openings where those critters may try and gain access. Please don’t use poison to deal with them – it can be harmful to our family pets and other wildlife.
