The Milburn Fields HOA Annual Meeting last month was well attended with approximately 50 neighbors participating in the election of board members, voting on a change in annual fees, and presentations from guest speakers. The full minutes of the meeting will be posted on the website when finalized.
A quick summary includes a small fee increase in annual dues from $6 per year to $12 per year starting in 2019, several board members stepping down, and several new board members being elected.
The OP City Forester updated us on our infected trees and how the city is helping remove and replace them. View the full plan here.
Our OP City Council Member updated us on changes coming to downtown OP, the future of Marty Pool, and the redesigned and customer-service oriented OP City Website. The city is going to rebuild our fire station and close Marty Pool in approximately 4 years. If you would like to voice your opinion on the city’s plan to close Marty Pool, contact our city Council Member, Logan Heley, here.
Get to Know You Neighborhood
With the season finally changing, there will soon be time to send time outdoors. Luckily for our neighborhood, there are many parks within walking distance to enjoy.
Dodge Town at Antioch Park (Grand Opening April 21): Located north on Antioch with a walking path, large pond, great play area for the kids and the newly updated Dodge Town.
Antioch Acres Park: Within walking distance West of Antioch Elementary, park with lots of green space, shelter house available for rent, tennis courts, and a small kids gym.
Marty Pool: When warmer weather approaches, get your sunscreen and beach towels ready. Walk just south on Conser to Marty pool. Great for the kiddos and adults alike!
Farmers’ Market: Opening Saturday April 14h, the county’s largest marketplace for locally grown produce and items is an Overland Park staple each weekend. Market Wednesdays start mid May.
Crime Prevention – Free Security Survey
A couple of responses to our first survey concerned neighborhood crimes. A review of the the Crime Map on the Overland Park city website. https://map.opkansas.org/crime-map/# shows that our neighborhood only had two reported crimes in the past year. They were property crimes.
Overland Park offers free residential and business security surveys for OP residents. Officer Koehn says most crimes are crimes of opportunity, for example valuables left in vehicles and things taken from garages when the doors are left open. The best way to prevent these crimes is to keep the doors locked and be aware of your surroundings.
Call Officer Koehn at 913-895-6290 to schedule your free security survey.
Recipe Corner
Board member Catalina Velarde suggested we add a recipe corner to the newsletter so here I a favorite of mine. It is from a cook book that must be at least 50 years old.
