Election\u00a0Season and Voter Registration<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Our neighborhood has welcomed over 50 new families in the past two years!\u00a0 Part of moving into a new home is the need to update your voter registration information. You can do this via the Johnson County Election Office (913-715-6800) or visiting www.ksvotes.org<\/a><\/p>\n

Some key dates to remember:<\/p>\n

7\/17\/18: Registration deadline for Primary Election
\n7\/31 – 8\/6: Early Voting for Primary\"American<\/a>
\n8\/7\/16: Primary Election Day
\n10\/16\/18: Registration deadline for General Election
\n10\/22 – 11\/5: Early Voting for General
\n11\/6\/18: General Election Day<\/p>\n

Our neighborhood polling place is the American Legion at 7500 75th Street.<\/p>\n

June Events Near the Neighborhood<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Springtime and the nicer weather allows for many more community events to enjoy!\u00a0 The Downtown Overland Park<\/a> website and their Facebook<\/a> is updated regularly with upcoming events, news, and overview of the historic district.<\/p>\n

  1. Chow Down Downtown Food Crawl<\/a> –\u00a0 June 9th:\u00a0 $25 gets you a small bite or drink sample from each of the participating eateries, wineries, bars, bakeries, and retail shops.<\/li>\n
  2. Local Life 3rd Friday – June 15th:\u00a0 Each month on the 3rd Friday, retail shops stay open late for an extended night of live music, food and drink samples, giveaways and sales at your favorite Downtown OP business.<\/li>\n
  3. Movies in the Park<\/a> – June 15th:\u00a0 Free!\u00a0 After Local Life, bring a lawn chair or blanket, your favorite snacks, and the kiddos for a fun family outing to enjoy a classic movie in Santa Fe Commons Downtown OP.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Outdoor Family Movie Night<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

    Saturday, June 9th, at Antioch Acres Park – join the neighborhood around 7:30 P.M.\u00a0 Bring a picnic and be ready for a movie night in the park!\u00a0 Gretchen Shanahan has taken the lead with coordinating this event, and has also found a sponsor to help cover some rental fees.<\/p>\n

    Furry Critter Visitors: domestic and not<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

    A friendly reminder that our family dogs and cats must be licensed with the city by June 30.\u00a0 There is a $10 fee for spayed\/neutered pets – and a $20 fee for non-spayed\/neutered pets.\u00a0 Of course, the health and safety of all our furry loved ones are most important so be sure to vaccinate your\u00a0pets regularly.\u00a0 OP requires Special Animal Permits for homes with more than 2 dogs or 2 cats.\u00a0 City regulations require dogs must be on a leash no longer than 10 feet long at all times, when not confined to the backyard or residence.\u00a0 Tethering dogs outside between the hours of 7 PM and 7 AM is also prohibited.\u00a0 Please consider your neighbors by keeping dogs that may bark excessively inside – they are probably just trying to tell us they want inside!<\/p>\n

    You may see and hear more songbirds in your yard – this is their nesting season! They depend on insects (10,000+ insects) to raise their young.\u00a0 Pesticides are harmful to these visitors, please be conscious of this – songbirds love to help control those pesky insects.<\/p>\n

    Non-Domestic neighborhood visitors such as raccoons, opossums, rabbits, field mice, chipmunks, and all of the squirrels our neighborhood sees will be around this time of the year as well.\u00a0 Keep an eye on the exterior of your home for openings where those critters may try and gain access.\u00a0 Please don’t use poison to deal with them – it can be harmful to our family pets and other wildlife.<\/p>\n
